How do I get to DeanPhotos? Links all gone...

Can anyone tell me how to get to DeanPhotos? I've tried every link to get there and it's gone. I tried going in through DeanLeaders, no go. I've tried my link for DeanPix and DeanPhotos - no go. I want to see the quilt Ann did for Dean! Anyone know how to get there from here?

QUICK REPLY: Go here instead and you will be able to see the normal site just fine. http://sf4dean.com/gallery/ I just discovered what happened: Techie stuff like "my name server info was pointing to my old registrar's name server, and I had months ago switched to a new registrar -- but forgot to chnage the name server info (DNS) from the old registrar to the new registrar." I have just updated that stuff -- and it takes up to 48 hours for the website address (deanphotos.com) to resolve to the new name server. Like I said -- tech talk ... So getting to the website by typing Deanphotos.com will work again within 48 hours which means perhaps Tuesday. In meantime -- just use this other address, which (just to confuse matters) is the actual location of DeanPhotos.com .... http://sf4dean.com/gallery --------------------- Separate from that issue all together is that there is a hosting problem to resolve. The account I had prepaid for another year has a maximum disk space allowance of 1 GIG. But unbeknownst to me, the site grew rapidly in size up to 2.3 GIGs. So I have been exploring options Friday, Sat and today, Sunday. The simple solution is "we need more space". The problem is that in order to handle 2.3 GIG and more -- to enable expansion while maintaining the entire present archive (which is my preference) -- the price jump at the current hosting company jumps 10-time higher... we're talking about $1400. This is not only absurd, it is unaffordable by me. So what I was intending to post at DeanPhotos.com today -- coincidentally -- was a message to the community that presents two options: OPTION 1: Easiest but most expensive: The community, collectively, comes up with $1400 ... and that would provide a massive increase in space -- but then it's like hitting a nail with a piledriver. OPTION 2: Inexpensive but would require moving to a new hosting company -- which isn't that hard -- it's just cumbersome and would require close to afull day's work by a PHP/mySQL programmer. I don't have that experience -- and all last year I could never, for the life of me, find much willingness from the Dean Community of volunteers to contribute time to do work. They wanted to be paid -- which always bothered me but that's a separate issue. If anyone KNOWS of a PHP/mySQL programmer who would volunteer his or her time to download the whole site from it's current location, then upload it to its new location, then install the database files, and link them to the image folders --- please put me in touch with this person ASAP. We'll get this done --- we're Dean people -- so we can work together. :) rh+ | ||

| Renee in Ohio August 15, 2004 01:41 PM PDT There have been posts on Blog for America about being unable to post any new pictures on Dean Photos because of bandwidth issues--along with pleas for donations (wish I could).
